Leather is one of nature's most versatile materials. It offers durability in a variety of beautiful finishes, textures and colors.
products are made of premium quality calfskin, which is the hide from young bovine. The higher the quality of the hide, the less it has to be treated and the full natural grain is retained and exposed; leaving visible the "fat wrinkles", and the natural markings.
The first thing that many people do when they see leather is touch it. The way it feels is called its "hand", and it should be supple and natural to the touch.
Although calfskins are finer than the hides of older animals, they are equal in durability and abrasion resistance because the fiber structure of calfskin is denser, tighter and stronger than that of cowhide.
Handling and storage is important but scratching and staining is inevitable. The pieces are made to last a lifetime, the older they become the softer the leather.
- It is not necessary to use any leather tonics or creams, since they will do more harm than good. In order to maintain the leather looking new, mineral oil works best. Do not apply directly onto leather, add a small amount on to a dry cloth and wipe gently.
- Gently blot liquid stains with a clean cloth.
- Winter salt stains your leather, wipe with a clean, damp cloth and dry naturally.
- If the leather becomes wet, allow it to dry at room temperature. (Never put leather in the dryer).
- Store leather in a well-ventilated, cool, dry place. Avoid hot areas, such as attics; or damp areas, such as cellars.
- Avoid exposing leather to direct sunlight or heat for prolonged periods of time.
